Maktab
Maktab is the masjid’s own school for children. Your child learns to read the Qur’an in Arabic and to understand what it teaches.
Classes run on weekday evenings and on Saturdays, for children aged five to fourteen.

- Classes run with the Sutton Coldfield school term.
- Children under six are taught for one hour.
- We divide the fees equally across twelve months, so your payment stays the same all year.
Who can join
- Your child can start from the age of five, and needs to be able to use the bathroom on their own.
- We take new children up to the age of fourteen.
- We accept families living in Sutton Coldfield, postcodes B72 to B76.
What children learn
- Children begin Arabic with the Noorani Qa’ida, the primer used to learn the Arabic letters and sounds.
- They study Islam from the An-Nasihah series.
- We teach most classes in separate groups for boys and girls, divided by age.
Safeguarding
- All our teachers are DBS checked.
- Every classroom has CCTV.
- Please collect your child from the classroom door.
Our teachers
Imam Siraj is our head teacher. Imam Abdul Rahman and Ustadah Sumaiya teach alongside him, with others across the week.
What to wear
We encourage Islamic dress for boys and girls, though it is not required.
How to join
Sign up on e-Maktab. Enrolment, fees and class places are all handled on that system.
Places depend on how many teachers we have. If the classes are full when you apply, you may go on a waiting list, and a place can take several months to come up.
