Nikkah
The Islamic marriage ceremony, held here at the masjid or at a venue of your own.
What it costs
- £250at the masjid.
- £350at a venue of your own, which covers the imam’s travel.
You pay once the date is agreed.
Registering your marriage
We can now register your marriage as well, so it is recognised in law. Please ask us for the details.
Who can marry here
- Both of you need to be 18 or over. The legal age of marriage in England and Wales is now 18, and that applies to religious ceremonies too.
- At least one of you needs to be Muslim.
- The bride’s wali, her guardian, takes part in the ceremony. Where there is no wali, a qadi can stand in.
- If either of you has been married before, please tell us when you get in touch. It affects how the ceremony is arranged.
- You do not need to live in Sutton Coldfield.
What to bring
- Photo ID and proof of address for both of you. We check these in person, so there is nothing to upload.
- The mahr, the groom’s gift to the bride, is agreed between you beforehand. Some couples like it recorded on the certificate.
On the day
- The ceremony takes place in the main prayer hall, and attendees sit separately by gender.
- Professional photography and video are not permitted.
- Please do not bring food or drink into the building.
- We give you a nikkah certificate afterwards.
How to start
- We ask for at least two weeks’ notice.
- Fill in the request form and we will ring you to talk it through. Once we have your details and the date is agreed, we will confirm it with you.
- If you have recently become Muslim and would like to marry here, please say so when you get in touch.
